Office in a Warehouse

Office in a Warehouse is a project by Broekhof Schuit Architecten in Amsterdam. Typology: Headquarters. Status: Built. Photography: Jordi Huisman.
A solid nineteenth-century warehouse is cut and sliced into a varied landscape for work, meeting and retreat.
The headquarters was developed with the employees as a second home beside one of Amsterdam's oldest harbours. Strategic interventions follow the existing structure, integrate every technical demand and preserve long views towards canal and water.
Designed with its users
The design was developed together with the employees to complement working from home with an inviting, healthy place for concentration, collaboration and informal meetings.
Cut at the structure
Slicing the space at existing structural elements creates a layered plan. New rooms are connected and separated by muted rooms, storage and acoustic buffers rather than conventional corridors.
Systems become scenery
Sanitation, infrastructure, logistics, climate, daylight, health and acoustics are integrated into a family of distinct elements. Their strong identities form a sequence of views through the office.
A heart on the harbour
The bar and kitchen sit against the facade, opened further towards the harbour. Deep new windows maximise the view and become sunny sitting niches where people can feel the breeze from the water.
