We puzzle
with space.

Architecture that challenges the brief and makes everyday life unexpectedly generous.

We challenge the brief, the site and ourselves.

We research the spatial, social, cultural and environmental relationships of every project. Local conditions and sustainability are implicit in every puzzle.

Built spaces, transformations and studies. Select a project to see the puzzle behind it.

Context is not a constraint. It is the material.

A kink in a plot, a hidden level, weak beams or a narrow wedge can become the organising idea of a project.

A practice for architecture and urbanism.

Broekhof Schuit Architecten is a space-puzzling architecture office based in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Bas Schuit and Steven Broekhof are the two partners. Whether the puzzle is a shop conversion or an apartment building, the ambition is the same: a built environment that exceeds expectations.

Bas Schuit

Bas graduated as an architect from the Academy of Architecture Amsterdam in 2013. His work combines functional clarity with strong spatial quality, with a particular focus on dwellings and housing where design and development move forward together.

A building is never static. Bas designs versatile spaces that make room for both social life and seclusion, using atmosphere and material to support how a place can change over time.

In his own words: "An architecture that is unnoticeably well composed."
